MEDIA STUDENTS READY TO INDIA

MEDIA STUDENTS READY TO INDIA, THE STORY OF SPACE FESTIVAL IN NOV 2017

We are ready to move our space-related installation to India, after a year of developing, testing, sharing and experimenting. A yearlong project started from the open call for proposal, continuing via shortlisting to the final festival and residency period. Great effort and learning curve students!

The Story of Space 2017 Festival and Residency provides a unique opportunity to learn about and experience space from a number of perspectives, promoting inquiry and exploration. Artists, designers, scientists, educators and philosophers step outside their worlds and come together to create live experiences, installations, workshops, talks and panels on critical questions around space.

Media Lab’s project, called NORTHERN SHADOWS (was SHADOW PLAY) is an interactive installation which investigates two human centered questions
1) the aspect of equality, in a sense that ‘we all cast a shadow’
2) the philosophical question by Plato: are we all just shadows of something real, something ideal, something bigger?

How to create stillness to the most busiest place in the world? Northern Shadows is an media art installation that imports Finnish silence into India. It is a spatial symphony for a dark room, glass bowls filled with water, projectors, 3D-models, VR and motion-tracking device Kinect, experimenting the idea of creating ‘artificial shadows’ of the participants.

The installation is one of the kind in every space. After India Science Center we will build it in our new ARTS building Väre!
